A Small Press With Big Ideas
Mondays, May 14 and 21, 10:00 a.m.-noon at Politics & Prose, 5015 Connecticut Avenue NW Washington, D.C. 20008, Rose Solari will be teaching a 2-part workshop, “Elements of Writing: Setting.” You can register for it here.
Believable, fully rounded characters are a key ingredient of good fiction. But the setting in which those characters live and enact their comedy or drama is an equally important, if often more elusive, element of powerful storytelling. Imagine Jane Eyre without the English Moors, or The Odyssey without Greece! In this two-part workshop, we will look at some examples in which setting becomes an active participant in the story, and, through the use of some in class-writing exercises, explore and improve our own ability to create vivid and immediate settings for our work.
